LIFE SCIENCE LECTURES – Webinar Series

Episode eight – 2 September (15:00 16:00 CET)

Revolutionary advances in digital health are going to play an increasingly more important role in the future of healthcare. This digital transformation is crucial to provide better healthcare to citizens, and support competitiveness and innovation in the EU’s medical industry.

Determined to make this Europe’s ‘‘Digital Decade’’, the European Commission launched the ambitious proposal of the European Health Data Space (EHDS) to facilitate access and exchange of electronic health data for better healthcare delivery, and foster research and innovation crucial to the development of new and personalized medicines.

In April 2024, the European Parliament, after strong negotiations with both Council and the Commission, adopted a provisional agreement of the legislative text on the EHDS. This compromise text will determine the new rules how health data is going to be lawfully shared.

Implementing the European Health Data Space (EHDS):

Your journey from Regulation to implementation

EUCOPE invites you to an insightful webinar dedicated to the EHDS. In this episode of EUCOPE’s webinar series – Life Science Lectures – we will take a deep dive into the negotiated legislative text and reflect on what the compromise text says about the secondary use of electronic health data, which is going to be essential for accessing high-quality data sets for research and innovation purposes. We will also explore some of the opportunities and challenges for the pharmaceutical industry, especially smaller – and midsized pharmaceutical companies.

In addition, the Regulation will also have to be implemented. A harmonized implementation of the EHDS across the EU will be vital to avoid the pitfall of increasing complexity for research and economic actors and potentially stifle innovation. Especially, in the context of an increasingly dense regulatory landscape and immense diversity in the Member States’ national and sometimes regional health system. Together with the European Commission, we will also have a look at how we can ensure consistent and harmonized implementation of the EHDS and what role we can play as pharmaceutical industry in this important phase.
