European Parliament sets up new Public Health sub-committee
On 14 February, the European Parliament voted to establish a dedicated Public health sub-committee, that will focus on public health, pharmaceutical and cosmetic products, health aspects of bioterrorism, the European Medicines Agency and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.
The sub-committee will comprise 30 members and will sit under ENVI, which will continue to vote on legislative files. We understand that the EPP will get the chairmanship of the sub-committee, and that the first meeting is planned for mid-March. This would be timely to allow the sub-committee to lead the work on the upcoming Pharmaceutical Package.
